Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 21, 2026
BackgammonWorld is a free online backgammon game. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum the game needs, and we never sell your personal information.
1. Who we are
This website (backgammonworld.io) is operated by Compu Global Hyper Meganet UG, Badberg 5, 92360 Mühlhausen, Germany (the "operator", "we", "us"). For any privacy question, contact us at games@cghm.company. Full company details are in our Legal Notice.
2. Information we collect
Playing as a guest
You can play without creating an account. When you do, your browser generates a random guest identifier that is stored on your own device (see our Cookie Policy). We link that identifier to a randomly generated display name (for example "Guest-4FFY") and an Elo rating on our server. A guest identity is not tied to your real name or email.
Accounts (optional)
If you create an account, we store the username you choose and your password. The password is never stored in plain text — it is protected with a strong one-way hash (scrypt), so we cannot read it. No email address is required or collected. Because there is no email, a lost password cannot be reset — please keep it safe.
Gameplay data
We store the results of your online games (win, loss, opponent, date) and your rating history so the leaderboard, your profile stats, and matchmaking work. In-game chat messages are relayed live between the two players and are not stored on our servers.
Technical data
Like almost every website, our servers automatically process a limited amount of technical information needed to deliver the service securely: your IP address, the approximate time of a request, and basic browser information. We use this strictly to run the site, prevent abuse, and rate-limit sign-in attempts. We do not build advertising or tracking profiles from it, and these server logs are kept only for a short period.
3. How we use your information
- To run the game: seat you at a board, match you with opponents, and reconnect you after a drop.
- To keep your rating, win/loss record, friends list, and leaderboard position.
- To secure the service — throttling sign-in attempts and blocking abuse.
- To measure our own advertising (Google Ads conversions) and to offer affiliate links that keep the game free (see sections 5 and 6).
4. Cookies and local storage
For the game itself we use your browser's local storage (not traditional cookies) to remember your seat, your guest or account session, and your sound preference. Advertising partners may set cookies in your browser. A full list, and how to control them, is in our Cookie Policy.
5. Advertising (Google)
We promote BackgammonWorld with Google Ads. To measure how well those ads work, this site includes Google's tag (gtag.js), which reports conversions — for example, that a visit followed one of our ads. Google may use cookies or similar technologies for this measurement and, where enabled, to show you relevant ads on other sites based on your visit (remarketing).
- You can review and control the ads Google shows you at Google Ad Settings.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising from many companies at optout.aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance) or networkadvertising.org/choices.
- How Google uses data from sites that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
6. Affiliate links (Amazon)
BackgammonWorld participates in the Amazon Associates program. The "Boards we love" links are affiliate links: if you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. When you click through, Amazon — not us — may set cookies on its own site. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
7. When we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. Information is only processed by:
- Our hosting and infrastructure providers, who run the servers on our behalf.
- Google, as described in section 5, for advertising measurement (conversion tracking).
- Authorities, if we are legally required to disclose information.
8. Data retention
Account and game data are kept while your account exists so your rating and history remain available. Guest data persists as long as the guest identifier stays in your browser. Technical server logs are kept only briefly for security. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time (see section 10).
9. Security
The site is served entirely over encrypted HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as scrypt hashes, and our database is kept off the public web root so it cannot be downloaded. No online service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable technical measures to protect your data.
10. Your privacy rights
You may contact us at games@cghm.company to access, correct, or delete the information associated with your account or guest identity. To delete a guest identity yourself, simply clear this site's data in your browser.
California residents
If you live in California, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell your personal information. Using personalized advertising may be considered "sharing" under California law; you can opt out through the ad controls listed in section 5, and you may also send us a request at games@cghm.company. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
11. Children's privacy
BackgammonWorld is a general-audience game and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. International users
The site is operated from Germany and serves players in the United States and elsewhere. By using the site you understand that your information may be processed on servers located outside your own country.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the current version, and material changes will be reflected on this page.
